The Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Srinagar Sponsored by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, was established in 1982 for training of candidates in the field of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition. This was the 5th Hotel Management Institute in the country and first in the state of J&K. The setting up of the institute of Hotel Management in Srinagar has been in pursuance of policy of Government of India to provide trained manpower to the Hotel and Catering Industry both in public and in private sector, the institute at Srinagar has been plying a vital role in producing trained manpower to meet the demands of this sector since its inception and is in continuing process.

Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Srinagar is affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT) which is an autonomous body under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. NCHMCT in collaboration with IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) regulates academics for 3-year Bachelor of Science Programme in Hospitality and Hotel Administration.
