database restore from .bak file problem

I am new to SQL Server administration.I installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition" and "SQL Server Management Studio Express" on my machine. Now i have a database backup in .bak file i want to restore it.Is it required to first create a database then restore it or database will be created from the .bak file.
